The look of gas pumps way back several decades ago is too different from the gas pumps that we are seeing today. These vintage gas pumps were sleek, shiny and smooth, round and a truly work of art. Antique gas pumps can be restored to their former. Restoration of antique gas pump can be a rigorous process because the pumps need to be completely disassembled, motor and pump also removed. If rust is present, which is sometimes the case, sandblasting and a heavy epoxy primer are required.

Buying unrestored vintage gas pumps is less expensive because a lot of factors have to be considered especially the condition of the items, of which the original owner has no time to spend for its restoration.

Reproduction gas pump, on the other hand, are not the real vintage gas pump, they are close to the real thing because they are remodeled after the genuine old gas pump with the same actual size. Replica, as contrary to the reproduction, is the imitation model of the genuine vintage pump. Though the features maybe the same but the sizes may actually varies. It is use basically for displays in smaller areas where the reproduction gas pumps are not suitable.

There are several successful gas pump makers of which their old gas pumps have been considered vintage. One of those is Wayne. The company has come a long way since the first oil pump in 1891.One of Wayne gas pump vintage collection is the 1935 Wayne 60 Electric Calculating Pump and was deemed as the World's Most Beautiful Pump because of its streamlined Art Deco-inspired design that resembles the Empire State Building.
